CA requirements

I might be the only person on this board that doesn't own a gun, but I am thinking of getting one.

Anyone know the requirements for owning a hand gun in CA? I know they have changed a lot since last time I went looking (7 or 8 years ago).

21 years of age w/no criminal history, proof of CA residency, and a certificate of satisfactory completion from a state-approved Basic Handgun Safety course.

You can have misdemeanors on record just not a felony. The test is not required for long arms, only pistols.

Can you even say that word (gun) in Kalifornia?

I left Kalifornistan 12 years ago. I don't think anything has actually changed much though:

18 to buy a long arm
21 to buy a handgun

Have to either pass the goofy test, or show other training. Hunter safety course or license works as well. Have to go through a dealer, private sales were outlawed in 1991.

Pay $14 DROS fee to register the firearm with the CA DOJ

15 Day wait to take your gun home. No wait for C&R longarms.

Just bought three... it's ten days. At least for long guns.

Last rifles I bought in CA were

Mosin-Nagant
Indian Enfield
Sweed M1996 Mauser

No wait, two different dealers.

Re: CA requirements

There's a 10 day wait for both pistols and long guns. For a pistol you need a HSC card (which you get at the dealer after taking a simple multiple choice test that takes 10 minutes).

Ten day waiting period for long guns and handguns!?!?

Don't know about that; but, in my class, we were told to call them "firearms," not "weapons." :D

Cali has so many nbeatiful things - beaches - women - forests - mountains. It is a shame about the population density and liberals though. I do miss it! Thankfully I got to grow up there and experience it though.
